Dr. Joseph H. Lohner earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Loyola College. He then attended the University of Maryland where he received his Master of Science degree in Anatomy and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Concurrently, he worked part-time at Johns Hopkins Hospital as an Emergency Medical Technician. While at the University of Maryland, Dr. Lohner was selected by the faculty for membership in the GORGAS Dental Honor Society. Upon graduating Dental School, he was presented with the Anatomy Department Award and the American Association of Orthodontists Award. Dr. Lohner continued his education at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where he completed the Postgraduate Orthodontic Program in 1987. His thesis research was published in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics.
Dr. Lohner has completed the certification process to earn the prestigious title "Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics," a status which less than 25% of practicing orthodontists have attained. He received a commendation for Most Outstanding Case Presentation, Eastern Strang-Tweed Meeting in 1998 and was named a Top Orthodontist by New Jersey Monthly magazine in 2005.
Dr. Lohner has been practicing in Sussex County since 1988. He specializes in all phases of pediatric and adult orthodontics. Dr. Lohner is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and teaches in the Postgraduate Orthodontic Residency Program.
Dr. Lohner lives in Sussex County with his wife, Denise, and sons, Ryan and James. When not at the office, Dr. Lohner enjoys hiking with his golden retriever, boating, golf, photography and reading. He is a Dentistry Merit Badge Instructor for the Boy Scouts of America.
